SolarLite-S – Clearview Intelligence

The Clearview SolarLite Surface is a solar-powered, surface-mounted road stud that uses embedded LEDs to provide enhanced, long-range visibility for drivers, offering a sustainable and brighter alternative to traditional reflective studs. It captures solar energy to power bright LEDs, illuminating road edges, curves, and hazards up to 900m ahead, significantly improving driver reaction time.

A small solar panel charges an internal battery during the day and at night or in low light the stored energy powers bright LEDs that shine along the road. The stud contains high-intensity LED’s that provide continuous guidance and increased effective viewing distance. The stud harnesses free solar energy, eliminating mains power costs and reducing carbon footprint. It is designed for direct bonding onto the road surface, minimizing disruption and installation time.

Available in various LED colors (amber, red, white, green, blue) for different applications like cycle paths, crossings, and road delineation, and offers a long operational life (around 10 years) with low maintenance.

In 2020 JWD was approached by Clearview Inteligence to conduct the mechanical design of  the SolarLite surface studs. I was responsible for the initial product concepts, early CAD design, detailed part development, design for manufacture and post-production support including the use of NASTRANS finite element analysis (FEA) tools.

Deliverables: Product concept, 3D CAD part design, design for manufacture and production support
